Proper skin care helps to keep our outermost surface layer of skin intact. Good skin care requires a lot of effort. A healthy diet, adequate intake of water, avoiding alcohol and smoking along with proper skin care regime will help the skin age gracefully and beautifully.

Out of all the skin types that we know, oily skin is the one that is prone to skin problems. During summer the problem of oily skin become more gruesome. Extra oil in your skin attracts dirt and dust which may cause acne and pigmentation problem.

A proper skincare regime is extremely important for the oily skin. Here are a few tips that you can follow in your daily skin care routine.

  • Cleanser: Oily skin demands a gentle cleanser that removes excess oil without completely taking off moisture from the face wash at least twice a day to take dirt, grime, and pollution from your face.

  • Toner: Use a toner that balances the oil on your face at the same time prevents acne or any other breakout.

  • Oiling: A face oil that hydrated your skin without making your oilier would be of great help during winters.

  • Moisturiser: It is very common that we skip this tip to avoid the skin being thicker and greasier. Instead of a thick moisturizer or cream, opt for an oil-free moisturizer to protect your skin from drying and maintaining moisture on your skin.

  • Sunscreen: Apply a lightweight or gel-based sunscreen that protects the skin from the sun. It also helps your skin from any further damage even during winters.

  • Exfoliation: Exfoliation has tremendous benefits on the oily skin. It helps remove dead skin cells from the outer layer of the skin. But remember not to over scrub your skin. Use a mild or homemade scrub to avoid damage to your skin.

  • Blotting Papers: Gently press a blotting paper against your skin for a few seconds. This helps absorb most of the oil. It is an effective and convenient way to keep your skin oil-free.

  • Oil-free Diet: Avoid oily and processed foods to reduce oiliness on your skin. Eat a healthy diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins. It is extremely important that we drink at least 8 glasses of water. It not only hydrates your skin but flush out toxins from your skin.

  • Face Pack: Take a small bowl and add two spoons of fuller’s earth, two spoons of tomato puree and a fresh spoon of yoghurt to it. Add a few drops of lemon juice to this mixture and blend well until it become smooth. Using a brush apply this smooth mask evenly over your face and neck avoiding the eye areas.

  • Hydration: Water is the main element that detoxifies the skin as it flushes out the impurities from your body. Add a lot of liquids to your diet. For example: freshly pressed fruit juices or detox water. So here is a simple tip to make a healthy and detox drink.

  • Diet: It is extremely important that you eat healthy. Eat a lot of green vegetables, fruits, and fibre-rich foods such as lentils, broccoli, peas, raspberries, avocado, pears and many more. These are essential for the skin as they help in age reversal, restore glow in the skin and keep the skin away from breakouts. Remember to avoid oily or fried foods and those high on carbs.

  • Sleep: Getting proper sleep helps you to rejuvenate. While you sleep, your skin in it it’s repairing mode. Hence it is recommended to have stress-free sleep for at least 8 hours.
