Our feet work with us constantly. If we are running, walking, working, standing, dancing, playing, our feet support us in every way.

The skin of the feet is usually drier than the body's skin. The outermost layer of the feet is the thickest to protect them. Most of the body's weight is born by our feet. Enormous load and consistent rubbing on the feet can lead to dryness and cracking of the heel and other parts of the feet.

Prevention is always better than cure. Regular care of the feet can prevent them from long-term damage, and it also helps to keep the feet smooth and beautiful for sandals and flip-flops.

Let's find out some easy tips to prevent and heal dry and cracked feet.

  • Immerse in warm water: Soak your feet in warm water for up to 15 minutes. The skin of the feet is comparatively dry, hard and coarse. Putting the feet in warm water will soften the skin and cracks, making it easier to exfoliate. You can add vegetable oil to warm water to help moisturisation.

  • Exfoliate: Exfoliation is the most reliable way to remove dead skin from the feet. Exfoliation makes the feet deeply clean, removes dirt and dead skin. You can use a scrub (relatively strong), pumice stone, foot filer, or baking soda to exfoliate your feet. You can add baking soda while soaking your feet in warm water or you can make a paste with baking soda and water and use it as a scrub to exfoliate. Don't forget to moisturise after using baking soda.

  • Moisturise: Moisturise your feet then now forever. Any skincare regime from head to toe is incomplete without moisturisation. After bathing, after washing and at night, these are three basic timings for each day, when you should moisturise your feet to prevent dry and cracked heels. Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic Foot Cream is a non-greasy formula that sinks deep into the skin to soften and moisturise skin.

  • Homemade moisturiser: 100 gm coconut oil, 5 gm camphor, 20 gm paraffin wax. Melt and store in a tin. Use on clean feet at night daily till the cracks disappear. Wash feet in the morning and use a hand and body cream. Use it regularly for some time and the cracked heels will start to heal remarkably.

  • Moisturisation at Night: This is the most beneficial time of moisturisation. Apply a thick and rich moisturiser on your feet and give it a massage for 5 minutes. Wear a pair of cotton socks and go to sleep. While sleeping, our body comes to rest and the process of skin healing starts. Moisturising at night will help to lock in the moisture, keep them hydrated deep into the skin. It helps to get rid of the damaging effects of a dry environment and strong soaps. You can use Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic Honey and Shea Butter Body Lotion. This product has a triple action formula that supplies vital nutrients to your skin. Blends of coconut oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, shea butter help to moisturise, nourish & protect the feet.

  • Pedicure Fortnightly: At least once every two weeks you should get your feet healed and cleansed from the professionals. This will not only make your feet beautiful, but it actually helps the feet to get deep cleansing. With every step from soaking, exfoliating, pack, moisturisation, massage they know which points of the feet need more attention and how to give feet a proper treatment to stay healthy.

  • Time to time home treatments: Last but not the least, those who are more dedicated to home remedies can try that as well. Aloe vera gel, honey and banana pack, coconut oil are a few home remedies that can treat cracked heels and feet. For a honey and banana pack, take two bananas and mash them properly, add two spoons of honey and mix them well. Apply the mixture on your clean feet and leave it for 20 minutes. Both honey and banana will help to nourish the skin, retain the moisture and hydrate the skin.

Do a patch test before going ahead with any of the remedies.
