Good skincare requires regular care with a proper skincare regime. An inadequate and improper skincare regime can run down and ruin healthy skin, therefore a regular skincare routine is essential.
How to Identify Oily Skin?
Every individual has a different skin condition, and these conditions are majorly categorised into three categories:
- Oily Skin Condition
- Dry Skin Condition
- Combination Skin Condition
Oily skin has a shiny appearance with large visible pores containing blackheads and whiteheads. The Texture is thick, coarse, and sallow yellow.
The oiliness is mainly caused due to the over-activity of the sebaceous glands and the overproduction of oil secretions. Alongside this, if a proper cleansing routine is not followed, the condition worsens. The nervous and hormonal irregularities that occur in our bodies are presumably responsible for this over-activity of the oil glands.
Skin Care for Oily Skin
Oily skin is the most painstaking and cumbersome to take care of. To treat oily skin, it is important to carry out a scrupulous cleansing routine, sloughing off the dead cells, and removal of stale makeup, excess oil, and grime embedded in the pores.
Tip 1 - The Cleansing Routine
Use medicated and mild face wash to cleanse the face and neck at least twice a week. Avoid using creamy and fat-enriched beauty soaps or face washes.
During the day cleanse your face multiple times with a freshener or cleansing lotion. After every cleansing, use skin toner, that helps in tightening the enlarged pores.
After using the toner, if the skin feels taut and dry, apply a mild moisturiser, which will not block or irritate the skin pores.
Tip 2 - Homemade Cleansing Scrub
Take 1/4th cup of fuller's earth (Multani Mitti), 1/4th cup of dried orange peel, and 2 tablespoons sandalwood powder/oatmeal, mix well and store in a container. Take one teaspoon of the mixture and make a paste with water. Exfoliate your skin with it and rinse it off with lukewarm water.
Tip 3 - Cleansing Mask
Take 1/4th teaspoon of fuller's earth, 1 teaspoon of tomato pulp, and yogurt in a little cucumber juice and apply it on the face for 15-20 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water. You should apply this mask at least twice a week.
Tip 4 - Toners
Mix a tablespoon of lemon juice or a tablespoon of vinegar in a 1/4th glass of water. Alternatively, cucumber juice, mixed with rose water is an excellent toner as well. Add a pinch of alum and two drops of spirit of camphor. Keep a bottle of any of these toners handy for frequent use during the day.
Tip 5 - Toning Mask
Make a paste of one beaten egg white, 1 tablespoon yogurt, and Multani Mitti, Apply it on the face till it completely dries. Later rinse off with regular water. Use this toning mask at least twice a week.
Follow the above tips to keep your oily skin free from greasiness, stickiness, and oil. Avoid using cream or oil-based makeup products. Use only water-based cosmetic creams and powder makeup.
Since the face has to be cleaned several times a day, use minimum makeup.
