5 Tips to Lighten your Dark Hands and Feet

After the face, the hands and feet are the most prominent and exposed body parts that can’t be hidden. Both all the time keep us working, moving, walking, running, go through hard water, detergents, chemicals, etc. Both hands and feet are highly revealed to sun, dirt, dust and pollution and also the most neglected for taking care.

Most people take care of their face dedicatedly and this care picks up some extra attention when the summer or winter comes. But they often forget to take care of their hands and feet. This negligence not only causes dryness but also leads to the darkening of the hands and feet.

Following are some easy home solutions that can help to brighten the dark hands and feet.

  1. Keep the Hands Clean & Moisturised
Always wash hands and feet after coming from outside, this will not only lead to hygienic benefits, but it will also keep the skin clean and healthy. If the hands and feet are left uncleaned and messy, this will lead to clogging of the skin pores with dirt causing internal damage to the skin. After sun exposure or before sleeping, clean your hands and feet with gentle soap or body wash. Pat dry and apply the moisturiser to let the skin keep natural oils. For moisturisation, coconut oil can be used. Coconut oil can act as a great moisturiser and can also help to keep the skin protected from darkening.

  2. Lemon
Take the juice out of one or two medium-sized lemons depending upon the affected area. Take a cotton ball, dip it in the juice, squeeze the excess and gently rub the affected area with it for 2 to 3 minutes. Let it dry and wash with cool water. Lemon has high skin lightening and brightening properties. It is enriched with Vitamin C that contributes to control melanin production and also supports collagen production. It helps to treat the darkening of skin, dark spots, skin pigmentation and gives bright skin. Don’t forget to moisturise the skin after this.

  3. Orange Peel Mask
Orange peel powder is a natural skin astringent full of antioxidants and vitamin C. It cleanses and unclogs the skin pores, leaves the skin youthful and bright. It is a great exfoliator for the skin. Take 1 tablespoon of orange peel powder, add 1 tablespoon of orange juice, 2 tablespoons of rose water and ½ tablespoon of fuller’s earth and mix well. Clean the affected area before mask application and apply it to darkened areas of the skin. Leave it for 15 minutes and rinse off. Apply a moisturiser. This will help to exfoliate the dead skin and brighten it.

  4. Yogurt & Tomato
Tomatoes are enriched with bleaching agents, antioxidants and vitamin C. Yogurt has lactic acid that helps in skin brightening and nourishing. Take the pulp of 1 medium-sized tomato, add 1 teaspoon of yogurt and a few drops of lemon juice. Mix well and apply it to the affected areas of the skin. Leave for 15 minutes and rinse off with cool water. Yogurt also has hydrating properties and tomatoes are rich in vitamins that help in exfoliation and removing dead skin cells.

  5. Turmeric
Turmeric has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that revive the skin, clear dark spots and give brighter skin. Also, turmeric has high healing properties that work for the skin internally. Take one tablespoon of turmeric and add a few drops of lemon juice or cucumber juice, 1 teaspoon of honey can also be added to prevent dryness. Prepare a paste and apply it to the skin. Let it dry and rinse off with cool water.

A patch test is recommended, before trying any of the above remedies.
