Essential Oils Are Good for Acne

Acne is the most common skin problem that everyone has faced at least once in their lifetime. Out of all the skin types that we know, oily skin is the one that is prone to acne problems. During summer the problem of oily skin become more gruesome. Extra oil in your skin attracts dirt and dust which may cause acne and pigmentation problem.

This problem can be regulated by incorporating a little doze of essential oils in your beauty routine. Although essential oils help a great deal for acne, some people could be sensitive to the essential oils and could get the condition worsen if essential oils are used directly on the skin. Hence it is recommended to dilute the essential oil with a carrier oil or do a patch test before application.

Here are some of the essential oils that are beneficial to control acne on your skin.

  • Tea Tree Essential Oil: It is a natural antiseptic. It has both anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Tea tree is popularly used in the treatment of acne or oily and acne-prone skin. It also helps reduce allergic reactions such as redness, itchiness, swelling, and burning sensation.

    How to Use: For chronic acne, apply 1 drop of tea tree essential oil directly on the affected area pimples.

  • Lavender Essential Oil: Lavender essential oils are ultra-soothing for the skin. It is antibacterial and kills acne-causing bacteria. It prevents skin dryness and heals painful acne breakouts.

    How to Use: Gently apply diluted lavender essential oil by dabbing it on the cleansed affected area. Allow it to dry. You can also mix a few drops of lavender essential oil to a toner or a moisturiser to use regularly.

  • Rose essential oil: Rose oil helps promote beautiful, radiant skin. It helps control acne as it is antiseptic properties. It also has anti-inflammatory properties which help reduce redness or sensation.

    How to Use: Add 2-3 drops of rose essential oil to any massage cream to use it regularly. Mix a few drops of rose essential oil with water in a spray bottle and use it as a face mist.

  • Juniper Berry Essential Oil: It is a natural antiseptic. It helps combat acne. It is enriched with anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties which helps fight bacteria that cause acne. It also soothes any inflammation or redness on the skin.

    How to Use: Dab 2-3 drops of Juniper Berry essential oil onto the affected area and leave it overnight. You can also add 1-2 drops of Juniper Berry essential oil to your face lotion or moisturiser. Mix it well and use it for the day and the night.

  • Patchouli Essential Oil: It is an essential oil derived from the leaves of patchouli plant and helps enhance the appearance of skin. It is also known for its ability to drain the skin and regenerate the epidermis to leave your complexion rejuvenated. It reduces wrinkles, blemishes, and is beneficial in treating acne scars.

    How to Use: Apply 1-2 drops of this oil to your face and give a gentle message for a smooth and glowing complexion.

Use it in your CTOM routine after cleansing and toning, mix 1 drop of patchouli with water and apply on the affected area.
