How to Exfoliate your Skin at Home

Everyday care of the skin can do a lot of good but its state is not just a local condition. A regular skin care regimen is very essential for all types of skin to cleanse away everyday dirt and grime, take away dead cells and stimulate blood circulation. The regimen includes cleansing, toning, and moisturising twice a day, every day. Twice a week exfoliate your skin to remove the dead cells and use a face mask at least once a week.

Exfoliation at least twice a week is a vital step for healthy and clear skin. Exfoliating your skin can help remove dead skin and rejuvenate it. This can improve the appearance and texture of the skin. Exfoliation also helps unclog the skin pores and leave it smoother and brighter. Regular exfoliation can boost collagen production, promote skin elasticity, and minimises the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Below are some easy home exfoliation tips as per the skin type to gently exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin.

  1. Exfoliator for Oily Skin Type - Oily skin type is caused due to the secretion of excessive sebum levels that can clog pores and can lead to breakouts and acne. Oily skin also needs regular exfoliation to avoid clogging of pores, pimples, blackheads, etc. Take 5 tablespoons of each; fuller's earth (Multani mitti), orange peel powder, and sandalwood powder.

Mix all three ingredients and store these in a glass jar. Whenever you want to exfoliate the skin, take one tablespoon of this mixture, add the required amount of rose water to make it a thick paste, and two drops of tea tree essential oil. Apply and leave it for a minute or two. Massage with damp fingers and rinse off.
  1. Exfoliator for Dry Skin Type - Dry skin type arises due to lesser production of skin oils. That may result in dullness and flaky and patchy skin. Dry skin loses its elasticity due to less collagen production. It requires gentle exfoliation with nourishment. Take 1 tablespoon oats, 1 teaspoon fresh cream, 1 teaspoon crushed almond, and 2 drops of sandalwood essential oil, and mix well all ingredients. Damp your face with water. Massage with it gently for 2 minutes and rinse off. This nourishing face scrub helps maintain skin elasticity by keeping it nourished and moisturised.

  2. Exfoliation for combination and mature skin - The combination skin type is usually dry at the cheeks but oily at T-zone. Combination skin types are of two types such as dry combination skin and oily combination skin. Mature skin usually has a dull complexion, loses skin elasticity, is hyperpigmented, and has open pores with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Combination and mature skin when exfoliated removes dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Take 1 teaspoon cream, add 1/2 teaspoon granular coffee powder and 2 drops of rose essential oil for combination and for mature skin 2 drops of jasmine essential oil.
